Employment Law - on the horizon: October 2018
From 1 October 2018, the childcare voucher scheme is closed to new entrants, having been replaced by the tax-free childcare scheme.
The UK's negotiations with the EU over the terms of its withdrawal agreement and a political declaration on its future trading relationship with the EU are ongoing. The negotiators are aiming to finalise this by the end of October 2018 (or possibly November 2018), so we can expect a clearer picture of the future relationship (or the likelihood of a no-deal Brexit) within the next few weeks.
Employment law reform
Employee ownership was high on the agenda at the Labour Party conference, with proposals that every company with 250 or more employees would be required to create an “inclusive ownership fund” under which employees would become part-owners of the business. The Conservative Party has announced a proposal to prohibit employers from withholding tips and may announce further reforms at its own conference and in the Autumn Budget.
